I tried it today too. I fired up my Windows 11 computer and formatted it as exFAT. Then I downloaded the entire map. As usual, it didn't work at first. Tomorrow I'll try it again with my Mac and download only the German version.
Edit: I just tried it with a Mac and exFAT and it didn't work either. The EQA with NTG6 is incredibly finicky when it comes to updates.
